Poem Response
I think that the poem was saying that Odysseus and his men didn't wait to be welcomed into the giants home, so the giant was caught off guard and didn't have anything to give them other than milk and cheese. So the giant panicked and ended up killing some of Odysseus's men, but in return of that he lost his eye. Therefore, the giant lives his days alone in darkness.
